UCEAP Announces Leadership Transition
Farewell to Dr. Vivian-Lee Nyitray, Welcome Dr. Dan Waite
The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) is proud to announce an important leadership transition that marks both a moment of gratitude and an exciting new beginning.
Dr. Vivian-Lee Nyitray, who has served as Associate Vice Provost and Executive Director of UCEAP since 2016, will retire on June 30, 2025. Under her nearly decade-long leadership, UCEAP expanded its global reach, deepened academic excellence, and strengthened access to life-changing international education experiences for UC students and their global counterparts.
“Dr. Nyitray’s impact on the UC system’s global education mission has been extraordinary,” said Katherine Newman, UC Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. “She has guided UCEAP to its current level of excellence and distinction, and we are deeply grateful for her dedicated service.”
Taking the helm on July 21, 2025, will be Dr. Dan Waite, a seasoned international education leader who most recently served as Executive Director of Rutgers Global – Center for Global Education. Dr. Waite brings decades of experience in global learning, inclusive access, and academic innovation across institutions in the US and abroad.
Dr. Waite holds a Ph.D. in Social Sciences and Comparative Education from UCLA, with additional degrees from Harvard University. His appointment reflects a continued commitment to advancing UCEAP’s mission of providing inclusive, high-impact international education for the University of California’s 10-campus community.
The entire UCEAP community extends its warmest wishes to Dr. Nyitray in her retirement and looks forward to welcoming Dr. Waite in this next chapter of global engagement.
