EAP is proud to announce that Bayo Collins (UC Berkeley) has been selected as a finalist for the Award for Academic Achievement Abroad, presented by the Forum on Education Abroad. Collins studied abroad at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro during the fall 2025 semester, and he also received the UCEAP Award for Undergraduate Research.
The Award for Academic Achievement Abroad recognizes outstanding student research conducted as part of an education abroad experience. Collins was selected as a finalist for his exceptional research completed during his UCEAP program, demonstrating academic rigor, cross-cultural engagement, and meaningful contributions to their field of study.
Collins’ research project focused on how Brazilians develop racial identities within a society where race is fluid and racism is often overlooked. It explored the impact of Black history education and the concept of engrecer—the process of “becoming Black”—in shaping self-perception and racial consciousness.
Finalists for the Forum award are chosen through a competitive review process by the Forum on Education Abroad, the leading organization for standards and best practices in U.S. education abroad.
